Modified Extruder Body STL for ASA/ABS Printing
prusaprinters

When printing with ABS or ASA, the tendency for the filament to warp can cause failures and sometimes requires extra concessions.

The extruder body for the MK3S+ is one of these such prints. There are obviously benefits of printing the extruder parts from high temperature materials, but the original design is prone to warping on these same high temperature materials. The PINDA clamp is open on the build plate and as the print progresses, it eventually loops back around and bridges at the top. If the small outside part is off the smallest bit (because it has warped away from the body), the final bridging will fail and the print will therefore fail.

I added a couple of vertical connectors inside the open part of the PINDA clamp to keep it from warping away from the body as the print progresses. Once the print is complete, use an Xacto knife or similar to simply cut these four bars away so that the clamp is open again.

PLEASE NOTE: These four bars are purposely pretty small and they start as a tiny bridge on the second or third layer depending on your slicer settings. Once you slice the STL use the visualization tools in your slicer to take a look around layer 4 or 5 and make sure they will print. Sometimes, thin wall settings or other settings in slicer will omit them. In most cases, this should not happen - but it never hurts to check the GCODE visualization to make sure before you spend the time printing the part :)

Please post your makes - I would love to see how things turn out for you :) Enjoy!
