A specially crafted natural column in Rio Frio Cave A reveals itself to be an altered structure, as if created by the skilled hands of the Ancient Maya to form a terrifying gaping mawed zoomorph. When illuminated by flickering torchlight, the "face" of this creation would have cast a striking shadow on the cave wall above, making it visible to ritual participants gathered in the chamber below (A masterful model crafted by M.
