A relevant journal article investigates the impact of leading-edge tubercles on a propeller's performance. The research paper abstract and results are available on two blogs. The propeller, with a diameter of 255mm, produces 10% more thrust while being 8% lighter than a baseline propeller. This results in direct fuel savings and greener flights. For the same diameter, it can lift more weight or be designed smaller for the same thrust. The modified propeller has a larger coefficient of thrust compared to the baseline propeller. The principles apply to various entries in aerodynamics, including energy and power (Modified Helical Darrieus Wind Turbine Blade) and rotary flight (Modified Rotor Blade), as well as wings (Rear Wing). Propellers can be 3D printed using 3D pens or printers and used on drones.
