Modification to X-Axis Belt Tension Fork to allow cogged bearing for Startt
thingiverse
I decided to swap out the idler bearings for flanged cogged idler bearings and installed a pack of five BIQU GT2 20Teeth 5mm Bore Aluminum Timing Belt Idler Pulleys from Amazon, which cost $9 US delivered. These pulleys are designed specifically for 3D printing and feature a wide 6mm belt width. The new cogged idler bearings fit perfectly without the large spacing washers used with the stock bearings, allowing me to install them easily. The attached modification is an easy tweak to Bkult3's great X-axis belt tensioner fork design, enabling it to accommodate the wider flanged cogged idler bearing. I appreciate the effort put into designing these mods by Bkult3 and they work seamlessly in my printer. While I'm not sure if the cogged idler bearings truly run smoother with the cogged belts, I'm happy with the upgrade and think the flanges on these bearings may also reduce wear on the belts compared to the occasional rubbing against the printer guides with the stock idler bearings.
