My mother asked me to design some trees as decorations for a table at a Christmas tea. I wanted to design simple models that could be printed:

with no infill or supports

either as modeled or scaled

with a modifier cylider to add a hole bottom in PrusaSlicer to add led tea lights

Diamond tree

This model is 68x68x86mm

At 0.30mm layer height and 0% infill, each tree takes about 1h44m

Low poly tree

This model is 60x60x90mm

At 0.30mm layer height and 0% infill, each tree takes about 1h14m

Smooth tree

This model is 65x65x125mm

At 0.30mm layer height and 0% infill, each tree takes about 1h27m

I have also added 3mf files of the sizes I needed for you to slice yourself. All were printed with Prusament Natural Transparent PVB (with 2 extra diamond trees in Amolen Silk Rainbow PLA) with no issues.

Diamond tree (6 in tall)

Scaled up to 101.6x101.6x127mm

A 42x42mm hole added to the base for a led tea light

At 0.30mm, each tree takes about 3h38m

Low poly tree (5 in tall)

Scaled up to 101.6x101.6x152.4mm

A 42x42mm hole added to the base for a led tea light

At 0.30mm, each tree took about 3h15m

Smooth tree

As modeled

A 42x42mm hole added to the base for a led tea light

At 0.30mm, each tree took about 1h35m

Smooth tree (8 in tall)

Scaled up to 101.6x101.6x162.56mm

A 42x42mm hole added to the base for a led tea light

At 0.30mm, each tree took about 3h14m

Optional tea light modification

Because the plastic shell of the tea lights I had on hand were to tall for the scaled diamond tree and the lights needed to be manually switched on and off, I designed a new shell for the lights that is two parts. Here were my targets.

For the cover part:

Lower profile

Fit into all the trees

For the base part:

Hold the plate the led is connected to in place to avoid movement

Be able to access the on/off switch

Fit firmly in the 42x42mm hole I made without coming out

Have the ability to remove the cover and base should the tea light batteries need replacing

The 2 part model is 86.33x42x12mm. The cover part is complete optional as its only purpose is to cover the led. This gives a cleaner look as it hides the pins. Unless you are using transparent filament this is not a necessity. The base is the functional part of this set.

Printing one pair at 0.30mm layer height will take about 23m

Here's an example video of putting the tea light mod together:

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/GB7c008beYY"></oembed>
