This retreat center was conceived as an entry for the Bowman Design Forum Competition, set against a breathtaking backdrop of prairie located just outside Alma, KS. The vision behind this project revolves around harnessing the natural beauty that surrounds it - by incorporating regional characteristics into its design and allowing visitors to tap into that phenomenon and invite reflective contemplation in an era rapidly industrializing itself. As one of three prize-winning projects entered into this competition by 3rd-year architecture students, it stood as runner-up (in fact a mere step away from first place).
