The introduction of more intricate house designs allowed large gatherings to convene in grandeur-filled halls, while staff typically slept within these expansive spaces adjacent to main entrances. Modern houses often incorporate an essential element - an entrance corridor connecting the main entry point with directly accessible interior rooms and areas further beyond. Contemporary architecture presents halls adjacent to the primary entrance as fundamental structural components of most homes, functioning similarly in style if not in grandeur to their ancestral precursors despite their practical reduction from former times. Passages leading deeper within a dwelling or sometimes even hallways can assume elongated dimensions, receiving such colloquial labels by association and etymology.
