Hi everyone!
After taking a look at the plethora of modern and more abstract chess designs, I found that there wasn't really anything that incorporated and truly represented chess's simplicity and complexity of strategy into the design.
I present, "the modern chess set"
Overall, the idea is that the moves of the pieces themselves would be incorporated into the design. Starting first with the pawn, the pieces are simple, representing the rank and overall how basic their existence is. Move forward and die, such is the life of a pawn.
You will then notice the King is also similar to a pawn, which represents in a way of how similar and relatable he is to the commoners but at the same time how massive his dot is represents his distinguished stature. Of course being king, he may move wherever he wants, but only one space at a time.
Next is the queen, the second dot on top of the other one essentially represents a sort of crown on the queens head. She is arguably the most powerful piece on the board because of her ability to move in any linear direction at any length.
The bishops of course move diagonally, but it can also be interpreted that they are sort of guards in the king and queens lives with their spears crossing to block attacks.
Knights are in the shape of an L, which is how they move.
Rooks are in the shape of a cross because they may move left, right, up or down, but the design almost gives an appearance of a crusader which is fitting.
