Nijverdal Ten Kate and Hegemann Betonbouw are set to sign a collaborative agreement on Tuesday, March 29. The partnership aims to intensify their joint efforts in the future. Both companies complement each other's expertise in lightweight constructions. Nijverdal Ten Kate provides high-quality reinforced thermoplastics used extensively in the aviation industry and increasingly in automotive production, which are now deemed suitable for extremely strong yet lightweight bridge components. Hegemann Betonbouw has considerable experience with complex, highly loaded concrete bridges. As a pilot project, they will collaborate on constructing a foot-bike bridge over the N35 highway and railway in the Ravine. The bridge is part of the Fietssnelweg F35 running from Enschede to Wierden via Hengelo and Almelo, leading to the observation center atop Sallandse Berg in Nijverdal. It will also connect the visitor center on Sallandse Berg with Hellendoorn's Adventure Park and Landal Park. Long-distance hikers (Pieterpad users) can also use this bridge, which offers stunning views. The 150-meter long bridge features seven supporting pylons, the longest of which extends 18 meters above the Ravine. Each of the six self-supporting bridge segments measures 20 meters in length and is made of reinforced thermoplast. The bridge deck, measuring 6 meters wide (4 meters for the Fietssnelweg F35 and 1.5 meters for the footpath), sits on the concrete pylons. A 12-meter high observation platform with an overhang for enjoying the panoramic view will be created where the bridge segments rest on the concrete pillars, along with a possible bench installation. The bridge segments also include conduits for lighting and rainwater drainage beneath the pedestrian area. The collaboration extends beyond these Nijverdal-based companies, with the Municipality of Hellendoorn, Province of Overijssel, Region Twente, and Cyclists' Union playing significant roles as well.
