Model painting handle
thingiverse
A model handle designed specifically for painting miniature models mounted on 20-40mm round bases, similar to Warhammer 40k models. This design takes inspiration from Games Workshop's "buttplug" concept but incorporates a M6 x 55 or 60mm bolt and nut to secure the holder in place instead of relying on springs. The necessary components for assembly include an M6 x 55/60 bolt, an M6 nut, and a 6mm hole through the holder (Paint_handle_body.stl). To ensure a strong bond between the handle and the holder, super glue is recommended. However, no additional support is required unless your printer struggles with printing overhangs without assistance. UPDATE1 - November 28, 2017 A thumbscrew file designed for M6 Hex key bolts has been added to facilitate easier assembly. This component can be glued directly onto the bolt's head, eliminating the need for separate supports. Two images showcasing the handle in action have also been included: one with a 30mm round base and another with a 40mm round base. While the design is capable of accommodating 20 or 25mm bases as well, it's essential to note that larger metal models may become unstable when mounted on this handle. As an example, a metal Necron C'tan Shard of The Nightbringer (40mm round base) was found to be top-heavy and prone to tipping over. Future updates may include a lid for the handle, allowing users to fill it with sand or other heavy materials to redistribute weight and prevent models from becoming unstable.
