Model Paint Storage Tray
thingiverse
The paint kit from Vallejo that I purchased didn't come with a suitable storage solution, so I decided to try creating one myself. This was my very first 3D model built entirely from scratch, and after working on it, I came up with three different versions of the design I had envisioned. My initial attempt was the 2 Tier Staggered design. However, doubts started creeping in about whether this was indeed the design I truly wanted to print, so I went back to the drawing board and created a new version - the 2 Tier Straight design. This is the one I ultimately decided to print and use today, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I might have been able to do better. Undeterred, I came up with another variation, the 4 Tier Straight design. While I only ended up printing the 2 Tier Straight version in the end, I thought it would be a good idea to include the other designs here in case anyone was interested. UPDATE 02-03-2017 I decided to give this another tweak. This time, I rounded off the sharp corners, and I think it looks a bit better now. UPDATE 08/11/2019 Now with no "PAINT" text at all - enjoy! Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Maker Select Plus Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 20% Notes: I'm using Hatchbox PLA at 195 degrees with a 60 degree bed. How I Designed This I initially came up with the design in my head, then scribbled it down on a crumpled piece of scrap paper. Later, I used a caliper to fill in some rational measurements and finally tried to bring my vision to life using SketchUp.
