Model of Egyptian Tower House

Several limestone column drums remain scattered throughout El Baradany village today, documented by Coulson during the American survey at Naukratis. Leonard's collection includes fragments of columns and possible pavement pieces from the eastern part of Naukratis. Only a few examples of the painted wall-plaster discovered by early excavators survive, including meander and stars-within-square design fragments that Gardner (1888, 31) noted were applied to fine hard stucco on sanctuary walls and pillars of the Dioskouroi. Wells were also dug in various areas, constructed with different materials and techniques. Architectural models from Naukratis offer a glimpse into possible architectural styles at the site, including Egyptian naos models and tower house replicas, which recent magnetometry surveys suggest was a common household form at Naukratis.
