I upgraded my Model M's membrane connectors to pin headers, thinking that the intermittent key columns were due to faulty connections. However, I discovered that a micro-crack had developed in the keyboard membrane near the connection point to the board, which was actually the culprit behind the issues. At least now I've eliminated one potential problem. The clamps require a rubber pad glued inside to cover the parts where they clamp onto the keyboard. I used polyurethane rubber band splices for this purpose. When assembling the connectors, be aware that there's limited space between them, so you might need to trim off part of the shorter clamp's ear to fit them in snugly. The plastic components are relatively flexible and may warp slightly when tightened together, which could lead to misalignment. To prevent this, consider adding an extra metal plate to hold everything in place.
