The model depicts the marble relief donated by Rysbrack to the Foundling Hospital in London in 1746. The hospital, established as a sanctuary for forsaken children, received support from numerous prominent artists. Two years prior to donation, Rysbrack assumed roles of governance and guardianship in 1745.
