sketchfab

This is a photorealistic mesh animation of a flying gecko (Ptychozoon kuhli) captured in mid-air with the Beastcam MACRO from a live gecko in the Irschick lab at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The gecko's mass is 13.8 grams. Renowned CGI artist Johnson Martin meticulously retopologized and reconstructed the gecko from high-resolution images captured with the Canon G16 cameras, primarily using cutting-edge open-source tools like Blender. A collaborative effort was undertaken by partnering with Cameron Siler from the University of Oklahoma and Tony Gamble from Marquette University to develop this precise model, which will be utilized for conducting experiments on gliding in geckos. The creation of this remarkable model received support from NSF grant 1657662. Downloads are freely available for creative and non-profit use only.
