This American-made cannon includes just the gun and carriage. It features impressive geometric details, is constructed near to scale and comes with an entirely animateable model comprising separate parts. These can be used to create a realistic movement animation as well as to simulate the aiming and firing of the weapon. Animateable angle adjustments and common battle or practice tools are also included for maximum accuracy. The 1841 model field cannon is renowned for being state-of-the-art mobile artillery that provides infantry support during massed battles prevalent at the time. Its three-piece all-brass, three-and-a-half inch diameter smoothbore barrel is sixty inches long, designed to deliver devastating force over distances of up to fifteen hundred yards but accurate hits at such ranges are infrequent. Effective firing range averages a mere thousand yards depending on ballistics used for each shot. As the standard US Army field cannon from 1840 through the early years of 1860, this cannon came equipped with conventional carriages and limbers designed specifically to transport and supply ammunition. Each typical load comprises 105 three-point-five-eight inch standard projectiles weighing a whopping six pounds and five-tenths each pound respectively. Additional payloads included thirty canister shots, used for shattering troops formations and fifteen spherical case shells providing powerful firepower on the battlefield.
