Mod-t Cooling Duct Magnet and improved airflow
thingiverse
This is a minor remix of the "MOD-t Cooling Duct" by Lobo CNC, found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1529972. The original design calls for using rubber bands or glue to secure it in place, but this version uses four 8mm diameter by 2mm tall neodymium magnets instead. These magnets are positioned over the Mod-T screws to avoid blocking any airflow. Two versions of the redesign have been included - one is a basic upgrade with just the magnet spots added for those who have had success with the original Lobo CNC design, and another option features the main body and duct, which should improve airflow by having fewer dead corners and flat 90-degree edges to slow down air flow. Magnets that fit can be found at Harbor Freight, most hobby stores, or on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Magnets-Refrigerator-Decoration-Kitchen-Whiteboard/dp/B07D9RXPHP. The magnet holes are slightly oversized to allow for glue and are recessed just enough (0.4mm) to prevent direct contact and avoid heat transfer. The original design did all the hard work, and it fits well and looks great; this redesign simply makes attaching and detaching easier and cleaner. After gluing your magnets, slide the notched area over the heat break and carefully rotate under the wires - you should not need to disconnect the extruder wires. Once in place, slide the duct in and make sure the slot lines up, being gentle to avoid breaking the thin duct attach point. Push it up to get a clean fit and you're ready to print! Worth noting, I noticed after making this that a maker by the name of Deaxe attempted something similar by directly gluing his magnets to the original; their design can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/make:493432. I wanted to make sure to give credit for the similar idea that came first on 11/28/18.
