Mobile Puzzle: A Virtual 2D to 3D Transformation Step 1: Organize an Atelier to Learn SVG Drawing Participants learn to draw shapes in SVG, print the panel, and then organize the shapes to create a balanced mobile. A: Each participant draws and prints their own panel with hand-drawn designs and/or geometric shapes. B: For a shorter time, each participant draws one shape. The collective panel will be surprising during cutting. A standard panel consists of a base plus 10-12 shapes (large and small). Step 2: Assemble the Mobile Use a string: linen is an example. The longer and thinner the string, the more mobile the mobile will be. Tie it with a loop or tie a knot at each part of the mobile (see images). Crochets: Unlike strings that are tied and fixed, crochets allow you to make and unmake your mobile as desired. You can imagine a mobile with a base (see images and files NiukkiSushi), but it's more complicated to achieve in an atelier setting (balance...). For these tests, the basic format is a 40*60 cm board (3mm) made of wood, cardboard, or paper. In a collective atelier for young people, you can print the mobile and crochets on wood. The mobile will then be available to the leisure center, and each participant can modify it regularly, adding new shapes... Participants can receive a version cut from cardboard; some wooden shapes may be dangerous (points...). A cardboard version will be safe. Panel 1: Hand-drawn shapes Panel 2: Hand-drawn shapes + geometric shapes The hardest part is adjusting the masses for balance. You can hang the shapes with Ikea-type crochets (SVG to download). Download and print the pedagogical leaflet in PDF format, giving one to each participant. Shapes cut at FabLab Convergences 26 http://www.convergences26.fr/ within a creation and education project. Alexander Calder is known for his mobiles. He is attributed with inventing the artistic mobile in 1931, although Marcel Duchamp named it and Bruno Munari proposed the macchina aerea in 1930. "I would like to make Mondrian who move," dreamed Alexander Calder. 1930
