Tibia-fibula of Xenorhinotherium bahiense from the Pleistocene epoch in Pernambuco, Brazil is identified. This specimen was initially attributed to Macrauchenia patachonica Owen in 1838 but after 1988 it was reassigned to a new genus described for all Pleistocene Macraucheniidae in the Brazilian Intertropical Region and was re-identified as Xenorhinotherium bahiense Cartelle and Lessa, 1988. More information is available in Vidal's study published in 1955, which provided a descriptive and comparative analysis of Macrauchenia patachonica Owen from Pernambuco, including a detailed examination of its geological features. Cartelle and Lessa also conducted research on the subject in 1988, describing a new genus and species of Macraucheniidae (Mammalia, Litopterna) from the Pleistocene epoch in Brazil.
