MMU Travel Chess Set with a Twist

MMU Travel Chess Set with a Twist

prusaprinters

With this project the excellent idea of a travel chess set posted by WhatWouldAnEngineerDo has been modified to feature interlocking pins and holes, plus a one-piece board printed using an MMU, and finally a container base.  The board slides into place on the container base. The pins have an oval head and are slightly tee-shaped.  A chess piece can be fully placed on a pin using only vertical motion when the oval-shaped hole on the piece is aligned with the pin.  Then, a slight clockwise turn of about 35 degrees can be used to snug down the piece as the tee shape screws into the double-threaded grooves.  The scheme is believed to have a greater latitude for the pin and hole fit than a match of simpler mostly-cylindrical shapes. The chess pieces are scaled and modified from a Staunton set on Thingiverse  and the creator, PerryT, is to be commended for his elegant design and its suitability for 3D printing.I recommend using PETG with default quality settings in the Prusa slicer for 0.2mm layer height.   The smaller board sample project can be printed with a couple rooks and a couple pawns to test how well the parts fit for your setup and materials.
