MkV VW rear motor mount insert
prusaprinters

These are inserts that can be placed into the voids of the rear motor/transmission mount on a MkV GTI/Jetta (and similar era Audi). They come in two pieces, one for the forward voids and another for the rear. They slip in easily enough but will need some sort of plate/disk to help hold them in place. Otherwise, they will just fall out when starting the engine. Similar commercial versions of the insert include a metal disk but I just made my own from some thin metal sheeting I had. I'll try to get a picture of them actually installed later.

Vibrations are only noticeable on startup, not during driving or idle.

I made the front insert (black in the photo) out of some carbon fiber nylon I had from a sample. Didn't have enough for both pieces so I used PETG for the rear (green in the picture). Didn't worry about heat but did want a material that had a bit of flex to cut down on NVH. Haven't had them installed long to see how long they last but I did notice an improvement in power delivery since the engine wasn't moving as much.

These are not intended to take the place of some of the harder commercial products out there. I noticed the beginning of some tearing in the rubber bushing and created these to stabilize it since replacing the bushing would be a major pain.

Print instructions

The stls are oriented as they would be in the car. However, I printed them rotated 90 degrees (so they look like a U) so the layer lines would be perpendicular to the movement they would experience.
