MKS Gen 1.4 Case for PRUSA I3 MK2 Frame
thingiverse
This is a case for the MKS GEN 1.4 main board that bolts onto the Prusa i3 MK2 frame. The MKS Gen 1.4 main board operates within a voltage range of 12-24V, offering several advantages over 12V systems. Running at 24V results in lower amperage, which reduces stress on MOSFETs and wires. Ensure that each component in your printer is rated for 24V. Upon researching case designs compatible with my Prusa clone aluminum frame, I was unable to find a suitable match. A 40mm fan is necessary for cooling purposes, attached via 3mm screws and nuts held captive within printed slots. ## Note: This is an ongoing project with minor issues that can be addressed. 1. The alignment of screw posts may be off by a millimeter or so, but the screws still fit. 2. Calibrate your printer before printing to minimize misalignment. 3. The holes in the case are primarily designed for filament savings while also aiding cooling; however, I need to reorient them with the pointy side facing upwards to reduce overhanging effects. 4. The USB cable may not be centered due to the posts being 0.75mm off from the back side, but it still fits into its slot. 5. To accommodate the USB cable, move the post 8mm towards the back to avoid deep insertion. 6. Ensure the use of proper length mounting screws to prevent them from touching the main board. 7. The STL files used for this remix were created in Blender and may have some issues; these STLs work with Cura Slicer but may not slice correctly with Slic3r, requiring either Cura or double-checked printing through simulation. For optimal results, use at least 3 top layers/shells and 15% infill or more. I am open to feedback on the design and invite suggestions for improvement; if you're interested in collaborating, please let me know, and I can provide the Blender files. In the long term, I aim to re-write this case in Open SCAD, and with enough interest, we can collaborate on this project together.
