Mk8 upgrade without cutting for REP 2
thingiverse
This replicator2 extruder modification involves a minimalistic mk8 derivative that eliminates the need to cut plastic on top. The redesigned version 3 front piece accommodates 10mm bearings, tested successfully; it also includes two cutouts for friction interference and hitting covers. An alternative file removes material from the front where bearing contacts drive for 8mm bearings (untested). Users are encouraged to try different bearing sizes and report back. Version 2 files offer correct hole alignment with minimal post-print work. Installation involves cutting bearing slot support, installing bearings and springs, and assembling printer components carefully. A utility knife helps remove the bearing support post, while a specific spring assortment from Harbor Freight is recommended for optimal tension. The back piece's PLA base has not shown any warping or failure issues despite heat concerns.
