MK8 3D Printer Conversion, Laser/Spindle Engraver
thingiverse
Conversion parts and interchangeable mounting bracket for installing a MK8 all-in-one, direct drive extruder/hotend on a laser/spindle CNC engraver. Switch between 3D printing, spindle motor engraving, and laser engraving with ease. Fits engravers that accept a 33mm square laser body and is height-adjustable within the engraver's clamp for bed leveling. The NEMA 17 motor clamp of this adapter requires four M3x20mmL screws and nuts to secure it in place. The filament cooling version of the clamp also requires a 40mm blower and four M2x5mmL screws for optimal performance. Photos demonstrate the 3D printing adapter installed on a "24x17cm" engraver with 65mm Z travel, showcasing its compatibility with various engravers. To accommodate the hotbed assembly on top of the engraving platform, the four 230mm 2020 uprights were changed to 300mm length. The heat sink was modified by drilling and rotating it 90 degrees so that the fan does not exhaust directly on the heater block. This ensures efficient cooling and prevents overheating. Updated 01/14/2019: Filament rack holders for a round spindle rod have been added, as well as a motor/extruder holster/hanger for storing unused parts while the other is in operation. The adapter fits a 540 spindle motor and can be easily stored when not in use. A front-mounted filament rack can be constructed from the original 2020 uprights, requiring corner brackets and a round rod or dowel (anodized aluminum 15mmOD x 300mmL, commonly used in photography). Updated 01/10/2019: On the blower version, modifications were made to keep the fan exhaust away from the heater block and nozzle. The bottom left of the heatsink was closed off to prevent overheating. Additionally, BIQU/Lerdge optical endstop sensor mounts and interrupters that fit the 2417 engraver have been added, requiring M3 screws and T-nuts. Heat bed hold-down tabs were also added, which require M4 screws and T-nuts for secure attachment.
