MK6+ RTV insulation
thingiverse
In my recent attempt, the initial insulation with RTV failed as it didn't provide enough insulation. The hot end overheated and shut off after approximately 10 minutes of use. Interestingly, the insulation itself did not feel too hot to the touch. I decided to give it another try by applying more RTV, ensuring a thicker layer, and performing about three passes. This time, I have achieved close to a quarter inch of insulation on the hot end, and it has been printing for 1 hour and 23 minutes without shutting off, with neither the extrusion tip nor the RTV getting too hot. To begin, I removed the thermocouple and replaced its washer and bolt, followed by removing the heater and replacing its bolt. Then, I took out the mounting plate and bolts, washing everything with acetone before reassembling and covering the hot end with multiple layers of RTV, allowing 24 hours for each layer to set. Now, I'm eagerly waiting to see if this improved insulation will make a difference in my printing experience.
