MK3S+ small Extruder Cooler with diverted airflow
prusaprinters

This is an extruder cooler based on my previous remix, adding a bit of extra cooling made possible by the new MK3S+ extruder design.

As with my previous remix of KalleKnall's extruder cooler, this is meant to stop filament jams due to heat transfer from the extruder motor to the filament, while fitting snugly and blowing air upwards away from the heatbed to prevent warping of sensitive materials such as ABS/ASA.

The updated extruder design (R6) on the MK3S+ added three holes on the left side of the extruder that lead into the extruder chamber, and allow greater passive cooling of the extruder's Bondtech gears than was possible previously with just the hole in the idler door. This remixed cooler has an additional protrusion that should shunt some of the air down the frontmost of the three holes (see circled parts in the photos above), which leads directly to the Bondtech gear - The part of the chamber that should benefit most from active cooling. The inside of this remixed extruder cooler also has thinner vanes inside which should help air circulation into the shunt.

I've avoided extending the shunt to the other two holes, as one would cover the idler tension screw, and the other would obstruct the X-axis' leftmost end-stop position.

Print instructions

Print upside down using PETG. Although there is a cable guide from the original model, the fan cable can be routed down the other side and into the MK3S's own cable guide on the left of the extruder assembly. The fan wiring can then be channelled down through the cabling into the EINSY case. In my case, I powered a 5V fan from spare ground/5V pins on my unused MMU2S connector.
