MK2 Swole Frame Brace

MK2 Swole Frame Brace

myminifactory

This frame brace is designed to eliminate the flexibility found in the stock setup of the Prusa Research Original Prusa i3 MK2S. It also eases threaded rod fitment-to-brace that can slip during adjustment or tightening. While it does not completely solve perpendicularity, it helps mitigate extreme errors and adds a touch of style. You will need to grab the following parts from your spare parts bag: * 2 M3 Hex Socket 8mm long screws * 2 M3 washers * 2 M3 nuts * 2 standard Prusa zip-ties (optional, but recommended) * 4 large washers * 8 large nuts A STEP file is provided for those who want to customize the design to their liking. Some important notes for use: You will need two extra nuts from your spare parts bag because both sides now require capturing. The braces are intentionally 50mm long to make it easier to take reference measurements while following the official manual. Don't overtighten the grab brackets, as their sole purpose is to keep the threaded rod from slipping away or rotating during tightening or adjustment. They can even be removed once fully tightened. Installing a zip-tie can be tricky, so you may need to obstruct it with something just enough to make the tip buckle and fall into the slot inside the rod port. Space was tight, but it works fine in practice. Installing bracket nuts can also be difficult. Try using a long M3 screw, holding the nut with pliers while placing it on the screw through the bracket hole, then pulling it into place. Switch to an 8 or 12mm screw with a washer and tighten the nut until it locks into place by friction. Once you've done that, remove the screw and washer for the bracket's use when installing it into your printer. Caution: Use only an 8mm screw for final bracket mounting, or you will damage the threaded rod - there is only about 3mm of clearance!
