Mizar S Hotend Enclosure / Carriage Shell Framework v1.3

thingiverse

This is a fully original 3D-Printable replacement hotend enclosure (or carriage shell, whatever you want to call it) for the Geeetech Mizar S. Since this printer doesn't have a large community presence online, it lacks certain interesting and useful upgrade parts. One such part is custom blower ducts or dual-blower mounts. Trying to design a blower to work with the original enclosure would be a mighty pain in the buns, and Geeetech does not provide an STL for it. So, I went ahead and painstakingly created a working drop-in replacement with blender. It is extremely boxy and simple by design for two reasons.1 - Keeping it geometrically very simple makes it much easier and more accessible to modify by other people out there. It's terribly easy to round corners and make stuff pretty, but it's annoying and difficult to cleanly simplify geometry back down again for modifications and dimensionally-accurate changes.2 - I'd like to iterate on this some more; for example, my next project will be a modification of this hotend enclosure that will allow front-top mounting of the 4010 stock fan and will feature a dual blower duct for more even cooling. Per the first point, keeping this very simple in terms of geometry will better enable me to modify the design without having to work around a lot of rounded parts and complex geometry.Lastly, apart from having a part for modification purposes, I'm sure that there will be a time when someone out there manages to break or lose the original shell, and this might come in clutch for you, whoever you are! Or, perhaps you want a more powerful fan for your heatend and you need an easy and flexible design to make that happen without having to create a whole new component for yourself from the ground up.Please let me know how you fare out, and I hope it proves useful! A V2 will come soon with slight changes to fit and finish, and eventually a prettier-looking V3 will follow as well.PS - I included a very useful little nugget - the original .blend file. It contains the model, experimental parts (everything but the "final" part in V1 is just hidden) and cutout pieces as well as 3 separate 3D scans of the Mizar S carriage setup. The 3 scans include the normal setup (all together), without the hotend inclosure, and one without the hotend inclosure OR the blower fan attached. 3D scans were taken with PolyCam.EDIT:Revision 1.1 Improved dimensional accuracy, positioning of mounting tabs at rear.Made fan holes smaller to allow self-tapping screws to grip better.Fixed some minor geometry issues.Adjusted side-windows to allow better airflow into blower fan while keeping symmetry.Added small X-shaped optional "crossbars" that can be installed in the open windows.
