Mitten & Boot Dryer for Floor Vent - NO SUPPORTS
prusaprinters

This is an over engineering mitten and boot dryer for use over a forced air furnace vent measuring 14 inches by 6 inches (350mm X 150mm). Each tube can be turned on or off and has a unique air flow path forcing air out into the mitten but allowing a path for wet return air to exit.

If there is a vent size you think I should accommodate let me know in the comments. I can try to make a base to fit or feel free to use the included Thread Subtraction Boolean models to create your own.

Twist clockwise to turn on and counter clockwise to turn off, this allows only some of the tubes to be covered at one time. A visual indicator window users to check the status. An optional MMU version of the support tube allows the addition of color to the visual indicator.

All pieces print support free. I recommend PETG or some other higher temp plastic as PLA may warp. Printing at 0.3mm layer height with a 0.6mm nozzle will also save a lot of print time, make sure to set your print width to 0.5mm.

Four small M3 self tapping wood screws or similar are need to assembly the two halves of the base. The support tubes screw into the base and the dryer tubes click into the support tubes.

This design was inspired by the Mitten Monster (Mitten Dryer) by miragec.

Updates:

2022Jan17 - Added Larger base for 8in x 14in registers. Added Base Thread Negatives (STL and STEP) to Boolean subtract from a vent cover base to get the correct threading if you want to make your own bases. I also added some info on the thread profile I used below.

2021Dec30 - Add a version of the Dryer tube with a thicker tip for higher traffic areas. I noticed one of mine right next to the cold door broke due to contact with a stray boot.

Thread Pitch:

The thread pitch of the tube supports and base is not a standard thread. It is based loosely off of standard metric threads but I reduced the pitch and changed the thread angle from 60deg to 90deg for easier printing. The internal thread profile dimensions for the swept helical cut I made in the base are given below in millimeters. I used a 58.2mm diameter hole and a 4mm pitch. The hole depth was 10mm with a 2.4mm internal chamfer to act as a stop, see second image below.

Image 1: Base thread profile dimension in mm

Image 2: Hole Depth and Internal Chamfer dimensions in millimeters

Encouragement:

If you like what I'm doing consider buying me a coffee:

Buy me a coffee
