4486 Mithra (1987 SB) was discovered by E. Elst, V. Ivanova, and V. Shkodrov on September 22, 1987 at the Bulgarian National Observatory in Smolyan. Mithra has a semi-major axis of 2.20 AU, an eccentricity of 0.66, and an inclination of 3.0 degrees. This asteroid belongs to the Apollo class and crosses the orbits of Earth and Mars. Its perihelion lies just beyond the orbit of Venus, allowing for close approaches within 0.02 AU. The absolute magnitude of Mithra is 15.6, suggesting a diameter of approximately 2 km.
