My shower failed, and the first thing I knew about it was water pouring through the ceiling in the room below. After shutting off the main shut-off valve and the electric power, I removed the cover to find a clip had snapped - the clip that holds the water inlet filter assembly in place. Without it, water was spraying everywhere. So, my 3D printer at the ready, I rose to the challenge. I took measurements of the broken part with a vernier caliper and created a Sketchup model of it. I ran it through modelrepair.azure to get the mesh completed properly (this took two attempts), then printed it. It all looked pretty good, and almost identical to the broken one. I refitted the shower and turned on the water with my heart in my mouth. Hey Presto - it worked! Not a drop of water in sight. Suddenly, my 3D printer that keeps Dad's garage busy has won new fans. It means my family can have showers this evening and saved us £150 in plumber call-out charges and a replacement shower. Surprised even myself. Print Settings Printer Brand: CEL Printer: Robox Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 100um Infill: 100% Notes: It doesn't need support if you use 100um layer height. Print enlarged to allow for ABS shrinkage - I used 100.5% as the Robox has excellent bed heating and enclosure which minimizes shrinkage. How I Designed This CAD Sketchup - I designed the circular parts first and "pushed" them to get the right width, then added the feet on either side, the holes, and the bush around them followed by the webbing. I printed one first to get the shrinkage calculation right.
