Minotaur Torso at the Louvre, Paris, France
myminifactory
The successor to the Archaic kouros, this torso exemplifies a significant leap forward in the depiction of the male nude during the Early Classical period. The level of anatomical detail displayed demonstrates mastery of the contrapposto stance, characteristic of the full statue from which it originates. Damaged in antiquity, the piece was restored in the second century BC and utilized to adorn a Roman theater at Miletus, where its discovery was made.
