Update 3/22/20: New V5 Coming Soon. Fewer parts needed to print, easier sealing with built-in trenches for adhesive caulking, improved structural integrity. Update 3/21/20: Improved connection seal between fan and filter. Update 3/19/20: Changes made to the piece connecting fan inlet to filter. March 18, 2020: Goal: Create a low-cost PAPR system using common parts and hobby-grade 3D printer. Started this project due to N95 mask shortage during COVID-19 pandemic. What is PAPR? Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) safeguards workers against contaminated air. PAPRs consist of a hood or full-face mask, which removes pollutants and pathogens from ambient air and delivers clean air to the user's face and mouth. Essentially, PAPRs improve respirator comfort by using a blower fan to assist breathing. Typically costs around $1500 USD, prompting me to create an open-source version. Project State: This is an early stage in design, but it's functional. Release this now so others can make or improve upon it quickly. If you have suggestions, please leave a comment or email justinshennanigans@gmail.com (note: misspelling of "shenanigans" in my email handle). Licensing: Open-sourcing this project to prevent corporate greed. Anyone is allowed to modify the files and sell them for a profit. Additional Components Needed: - 1x 3M Respirator (5000, 6000, 6500, 7000, 7500, 7800S, FF-400 series) - 1x 3M Filter (e.g. 2091 and 2097 filters) - 1x 75x75x15mm blower fan using 5V USB power - 1x Battery source (if using 5V USB, use a common phone power bank) - 6x #4 x 3/8" wood screws - 3x #8 x 1-1/4" wood screws - 2x 6-32 1" machine screws - 2x 6-32 nuts - 1x #214 o-ring between 40A-70A durometer (soft to medium) - 1x #24 o-ring between 40A-70A durometer (soft to medium) - All-purpose caulking adhesive Blower Fan Used: 5V USB plug connected to a phone charging power bank. Currently securing a supplier and importing more respirators and filters from China. Stay Safe!
