Minimalistic Mk8 replacement
thingiverse
The Mk7 replacement for the Minimalistic extruder works wonderfully, prompting me to install it on my Replicator as well. A slight redesign was necessary to fit under the guide tube-holding piece. Both 693 and 623 bearings are compatible, just like in whosawhatsis' original design. This replacement provides better print quality than stock Mk8s due to enhanced grip on various filaments and reduced friction. Problems with missing filament after reversals have been resolved. The minimal Mk7 extruder also allows for easier drive gear cleaning without disassembling the unit, and faster color switching by simply squeezing and pulling filament instead of reloading. To install, use a 693 or 623 bearing and a 3x10mm bolt per extruder. Print at 100% infill without extra shells. Remove support from the arm notch, insert the bearing, and secure with the bolt from the back. Disassemble the fan/heatsink and old extruder, then attach the minimal Mk7 pieces using the same mounting bolts. Reassemble the fan/heatsink unit and add a spring to the arms' notches for enhanced grip, similar to the original C-614 spring used in my case.
