Minimalistic easy-to-print 48T chainguard
thingiverse
This is a simple chainguard for a chainring that does not accept a guard. The chainring in question has 48 teeth, but I'm unsure of its brand. It's possible to use this design on smaller chainrings as well, and it can be secured with zip-ties. **Instructions:** Printed in PLA at 205C, 20% infill, you'll want to print the flat side down for a good adhesion and the drafted side down for easy removal. You'll need a minimum printing surface of 200mm x 100mm, and it's likely that you'll need to print two copies. Supports are not required, but rafts are optional. **Features:** - This design fits an i3 / Makerbot or similar printing bed since it requires about 20x10cm. - It may look unattractive, but it uses a minimal amount of material to get the job done. - Printing is fast, and should take less than one hour to complete. - The drafted/chamfered side should sit on the chain side so that the chain can clear easily. - The outside corners are rounded so your pants have a good chance of clearing the guard and chain. - Crankshaft clearance is 33mm from center, with an outside diameter of 210mm. - **Tested!** - You can clone it and modify it to make it your own by editing an OnShape sketch: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/41ae2ad591eadd1abd046603/w/e04e9aa26154bb40d38aec2f/e/2b6c9f6084c98b69cb31430b **Post-printing:** In the case of this chainguard, no modifications were necessary. However, I designed my other chainguards flat and used a lighter to soften them and form them by hand so that they sit proud (outside of the chain). If you find your version sits too close to the chainring, you can do that as well, it takes just 2 minutes.
