Minimalist (Travel) Soap Stand/Dish/Holder

I don’t travel often but when staying in motels I find, surprisingly often, there is no proper soap dish for the little guest soaps they provide. Even when there is a soap dish, they don’t seem to be designed to keep the soap bar out of the water that drains off. Just a small cup sort of thing that results in the soap bar sitting in water and getting soggy and slimy. This is certainly a first world problem and there are lots and lots of solutions to this minor annoyance but I wanted to design and print my own. So I designed and printed a minimalist soap stand for easy carry in a toiletry/dopp kit and simple use while on the road. It’s cheap and if I forget it at a hotel, it’s trivial to print a replacement. So I have posted three versions here: Version 1: Snap together parts – print with supports, (I suggest tree supports). Version 2: Non snap together parts – print with supports. Version 3: Monolithic single piece – no supports/assembly required. I haven’t decided yet if I want to add Version 1 or Version 3 to my Dopp kit for any upcoming summer travels. Perhaps both (they are tiny) so I can try both and even stand to lose one. Whichever one you like, it’ll keep your bar of soap, even a full size bar, up and out of the water whether in the little recess beside the sink or on the small soap shelf built into the shower. If there’s no suitable draining location next to the sink, just put a face towel under the lot. You could scale any version up a bunch, perhaps 300% or more, to get a more traditional size soap stand. I made my travel sized stand out of PLA but perhaps another material and a suitable size could result in a heat resistant kitchen trivet. Again, yes there are other solutions but this is a quick and cheap print and takes up a tiny bit of space in your toiletries bag if you might find it handy.
