Minimalist Ender 3 Board Fan Guard
prusaprinters

This is a fan guard for the Ender 3 mainboard fan designed to look as clean and minimalist as possible with clean lines, no visible hardware, and the minimum footprint possible. It prevents anything from falling into the mainboard fan and causing damage to the fan.

This design requires one self-tapping screw. The design can use a screw between 6mm and 12.5mm long (about 1/4" to 1/2" long) and the diameter of the hole is 2.75mm (7/64"), which should be fine for #10 or 5mm wood screws. Of course, you can also modify the design yourself to fit screws that you have on hand.

Fusion 360 (.f3d) and STEP files have been included for anyone to make modifications.

Assembly Instructions

Print the two parts (the washer and the fan guard). You will probably need to enable supports.

Remove the sheet metal cover on top of the main board by undoing the three screws. Be careful when lifting it out.

Unscrew the fan from the main board's sheet metal cover.

Place the fan guard 3d printed part on top of the sheet metal cover with the outlet facing towards the front. The four knobs in the 3d printed part should slot onto the sheet metal cover.

Place the 3d printed washer part on the other side of the sheet metal cover and use a screw to screw it to the fan guard piece, clamping the sheet metal cover in between.

Reinstall the fan with the two screws and screw everything back onto the printer.
