I leave this here for inspiration, though I highly doubt anyone will actually print it. A little while ago, I added a mesh based levelling feature to Marlin, which is a significant improvement over the standard bed levelling system that came with the software. Unfortunately, the original method had two major drawbacks: first, it required additional hardware that I didn't want to invest in, and secondly, it demanded a flat surface to operate accurately - but my printer, a RigidBot Big, simply couldn't accommodate this due to its large build area. To create a more efficient solution, I came up with the mesh method. Initially, this system was very manual-driven, requiring me to manually position the sensor on the hotend, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. My goal was to simplify this process by incorporating automation without overcomplicating things. The basic concept revolves around mounting a switch sensor onto the Pico hotend's base, attaching it to a small micro switch endstop with an adhesive like super glue or epoxy. The process is relatively straightforward once you get the hang of it. Firstly, carefully move the hotend up and securely fasten the sensor in place. Next, run the probe sequence as you normally would, which should result in the mesh levelling system detecting any irregularities on the bed surface with great precision. After that, detach the sensor and initiate a second probing sequence to fine-tune the Z offset of your hotend, thereby ensuring accurate positioning of your print. Needless to say, this entire procedure is best executed when the hotend is at room temperature or has been previously powered off. It goes without saying, however, for safety and practicality's sake.
