Minimal USS Enterprise D Display Stand
thingiverse
I set out to create a custom stand for my Enterprise D print, sourced from the impressive collection on Thingiverse. Specifically, I drew inspiration from the base design found in this model: https://www.thingiverse.com/make:375349. However, I sought to craft a one-piece mounting system that would offer improved stability and a more streamlined appearance. To achieve this, I employed Blender to modify the original base, carefully removing excess material to reduce its weight. Next, I utilized OpenSCAD to design the holder component, precision-crafted to fit snugly into place. To seamlessly integrate these elements, I then used Blender to carve an angled recess in the base, allowing for a secure and flush connection with the holder. While my creation remains a work in progress, I did encounter a minor setback: the initial tolerances were too loose, causing the holder to wobble slightly. To rectify this issue, I employed hot glue to reinforce the bond between the two parts, effectively anchoring them together. In the near future, I intend to revisit this design and refine the tolerances to ensure a rock-solid connection.
