Minidisc External AA Battery Adapter

Minidisc External AA Battery Adapter

thingiverse

This is my very first 3D model created using SolidWorks! I've been eager to learn CAD modeling since acquiring a 3D printer, making this an exciting learning experience that's also practical since there aren't any minidisc-related models on Thingiverse. This adapter is specifically designed for my Sony MZ-R90 and MZ-R900 minidisc players, allowing me to build an external AA battery box - the internal Ni-MH batteries are getting old and have less capacity than AAs. I could purchase a commercially available adapter online, but it would cost way too much for something that's essentially just plastic and metal components, so I decided to make my own. This is a work in progress, so I'll update this post as it progresses (I plan on adding a top piece, making the bottom slightly thicker, and including a thumb screw piece to make it easily removable). I've also included the SolidWorks file for anyone who wants to modify it for their own project. I added the models I created for the internal NH-14WM Ni-MH and a AA battery that might be useful in the future. //UPDATE// I increased the thickness of the bottom base to make it more durable, and added a cutout for the thumb screw mechanism. I also designed the thumb screw wheel with grips and top plate to complete the entire assembly. The STL and SolidWorks models for the entire project are now available. I'm really pleased with how my first 3D model assembly turned out in under a day, but time will tell if I got all the features and dimensions correct! Print Settings: Printer: Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1 mm Infill: 100% Notes: The base adapter weighs almost nothing and only takes 9 minutes to print. I haven't printed or tested the rest yet, but I'll post an update once I have. Post-Printing: Use a craft blade or knife to clean up the holes, and you're good to go - just be careful not to cut away too much material. The appropriate-sized screw needs to be epoxied to the thumb screw and placed in the adapter base, then a tiny bit of super glue on each corner will secure the top plate to the assembly. Make sure the thumb screw is free to rotate inside the case. I'll post a picture once I print and assemble my own.
