Miniature Xmas Tree in Red and Green
thingiverse
Here's how you make an awesome miniature Christmas tree that's perfect for dual extrusion printing, complete with all the OpenSCAD source and STL files you'll need to turn it into beautiful earrings! By the way, I recently updated the design by adding a second version called "Mk II" - I was having some problems getting the original hanging ring to attach properly to the tree trunk. Now that should be sorted! First of all, this Christmas tree design can only look its best when printed with a bit of colour magic! I used 1.75mm PLA and managed to get a pretty nice effect using both red and green filament. I was working on a Wanhao 4S at the time - make sure you heat your nozzles up to around 210 degrees C before printing, and remember to cover that glass bed with some blue tape for good adhesion. With MakerWare set to its defaults and print speeds dialled right back, I managed to knock out a Christmas tree in just 15 minutes! Of course, you won't be using it for very long, but if you're going to make these into earrings then the quick turnaround is essential. Okay, let's get stuck in - to turn this tree into something that will fit nicely onto an earring post or chain, all you need to do is locate the tiny pin underneath the trunk which supports the body and use some super-strong adhesive like E6000 to glue a nice earring stud right on top. Easy as can be!
