Miniature vice - Upgrade for hand knob
prusaprinters

Thanks to feedback from a user of my very popular miniature vice with table clamp, I realized that access to the the hand knob on the vice was a bit hindered by a part of the table clamp.

If you don't have the vice yet, get it here:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/53471-miniature-vice-20-much-easier-to-assemble

With this new design of the hand knob for the main spindle of the vice, this problem should be solved. It adds 8mm of distance between your hand an the static leg of the vice.

Compatibility

This knob consists of two parts, the knob itself and the lid for the knob. The lid can be pressed in with not too much force, and holds the screw securely in place. If you should feel that the lid could come off, simply secure it with a bit of super glue, but when printed on an i3 Mk3S, I did find this not to be necessary.

If you already have the miniature vice version 1.0 or version 2.0, you need to print these two parts, as the old lid does not hold the screw in the longer knob. Apparat from that, the new knob is fully compatible to both versions of the miniature vice.

Printing

Simply print both parts in the uploaded orientation, no brim or support are needed. You don't need much infill, except for the lower part of the knob, that has to take all the force between the screw head and the vice. You can either use a support modifier as provided in my .3mf file, our simply print the complete knob with 100% infill. For the lid I do recommend only 15% infill, which makes it a bit more flexible, so it can be pressed in somewhat easier.

Materials

As for all mechanically parts, I recommend PETG. As I had successfully tested the original knob in PLA as well, I would strongly assume you can print also this new one from PLA. But keep in mind that PLA gives in to continuous forces over time, so you may want to secure the lid with a drop of glue to avoid it to come loose after a while
