I was trying to design a removable motor mount for an RC model airplane so I could load the battery from the front. The whole skeleton of the plane will be 3D printed and covered with Ora Light iron-on foil. My design of a bayonet connector ended up being overdone for a 100cm wing span plane, weighing around 500-700 grams. So, I designed a very lightweight bayonet that proved to be absolutely sufficient. To make the most of my development time, I added some design elements around it and here's this cute little container. When printed at 100% scale, the diameter is 40mm. The container lid closes tightly and locks in place due to a tiny thread-like design at the end of the bayonet mechanism. This gives the outside of the container a very smooth appearance without any visible gap, while creating an almost water-tight seal. The mechanical margin between the lid and the pod works well when printed in PLA and PETG. In the picture with five pods, the clear and dark blue pod is made from PETG, while the others are PLA. My first use case for one of the pods is to store my tiny filament clips that always disappear in my 3D printing tool box. Have fun using it however you choose, whatever you put inside. As always, I'd love to see your make and hear about it!
