mini12864 LCD case for Artillery Genius / Sidewinder X1
prusaprinters

I'm not a fan of the TFT screens that ship with the Artillery printers, so I decided to replace them with slick little mini12864 displays from FYSETC and BTT (FYSETC v2.1, BTT v1.0). These displays give you a control knob which I really like for dialing in Z offset, and also won't interfere with firmware flashing or other USB communication.

I designed this to mount without drilling any holes or hacking the original TFT mount points. Instead, just assemble the front panel and a backing plate with the two ~15mm M3 screws, open the hinge, slide the top end of the backing plate in through the TFT hole, then hook the bottom lip of the backing plate over the bottom edge of the TFT hole and slide it down. Now you just close the hinge and secure the front panel to the back panel with two ~10mm M3 screws. It will clamp securely against the case.

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/eu07tXYqw7s"></oembed>

I've included a version of the back plate that use hex nuts and one that uses heat-set inserts. I find that the insert version is much easier to use, so if you have some, that is my recommendation. (It is designed for part [94459A130](https://www.mcmaster.com/94459A130/) from McMaster-Carr.) If you use the hex-nut version, make sure to break through the sacrificial support layer and clean up the hole before use, and use an M3 screw to pull the nut securely and in alignment into the socket before mounting.

Required parts

mini12864 LCD (FYSETC v2.1 and BigTreeTech v1.0 both tested)

2x M3 socket head cap screws, 14 to 16mm (for hinge)

2x M3 socket head cap screws, ≥ 10mm (for clamping)

4x M3 screws, 4 to 6mm (for attaching LCD)

2x M3 hex nuts OR M3 heat-set inserts

Klipper note

I had an absolute bear of a time getting these things to work with Klipper on the MKS GenL boards. Thanks to some help from the Klipper Discord folks, I managed it. I've attached that portion of my config for reference.
