The Rules The Towers of Hanoi is an ancient puzzle played with three stacks and any number of differently-sized disks. All disks start in the leftmost stack, with the largest disk at the bottom and the smallest on top. The goal is to move all disks to the rightmost stack. You can only move one disk per turn, and you can only move the top disk from a stack. The top disk of any stack can be moved to the top disk of another stack, but you cannot move a larger disk onto a smaller one - disks must go to empty stacks or on top of larger ones. To move a disk, click on it. If you can't click on a disk, it's because there is no legal place for it to go. If there is only one place a disk can be moved to, it will automatically go there; otherwise, you'll have to click on a stack to move it to. Modes of Play You can choose the number of disks you start with from a drop-down list before playing your game. There's no limit to the number of disks you can start with and still solve the puzzle, but as the number of disks increases, so does the number of moves required - that's why we've limited the maximum number of disks to six. Six disks provides a nice challenge without being too tedious to solve.
