Mini Talon Hatch Latch
thingiverse
I came up with my solution for the Mini Talon Hatch, using the pile of Hatch Latches we had on hand. These typical Canopy latches are widely used in many 3D planes and can be easily found on eBay at http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/172552903900?chn=ps&dispItem=1. The front end of the hatch retains the wood block, and it can still be used with a screw if desired. I used two 1-inch pieces of .125-inch fiberglass rod for my pins. The back end requires trimming and thinning the hatch so that it sits nice and flush. To print the Mini Talon Hatch Latch - Hatch Latch.STL top down, I added some supports where the latch mechanism will fit in. I printed two Mini_Talon_Hatch_Latch_-_Talon_sides.STL with the posts pointing up. These stay put in the airframe very well with the posts acting as anchors. To secure them, I press-fit them to make a mark and then used my solder iron to make a small hole. It's essential to note that the center hole is offset to the bottom. This is crucial for the latch side because the latch lock is also offset to the bottom. To complete the hatch, I printed Mini_Talon_Hatch_Latch_-_Hatch_Pins.STL for the front of the hatch to retain the guide pins. The holes are sized for bamboo skewers, but I highly recommend using .125-inch carbon or fiberglass and resizing the holes with a drill bit as necessary.
