The idea behind creating a Tri-Copter is centered on achieving helicopter-like flight and enhanced yaw performance, objectives I'm eager to achieve since owning a 200QX (check out my other post for details). I thoroughly enjoy flying this copter; it cuts through the air smoothly and swiftly (when desired) - fast, agile and ready for action. Exploring ThingiVerse, I stumbled upon Kezat's design and chose to expand on that concept, as the arm and attachment methodology stood out. This iteration turns the Y configuration into a T shape, adds protection for electronics via a cap, and includes space for the receiver. Additional features include reinforced landing legs and sturdy motor mounting designed specifically for sunny-sky 2204s (2300kv) motors which allow smooth hovering below half-throttle levels, alongside a compact 3s 650 battery securely held in place with velcro (7 minutes of non-stop flying bliss). For connecting the servo arm to the motor mount arms, I utilized high-strength 4lb fishing line on both sides in a push-pull configuration. Another exciting aspect is that I've incorporated a MultiWii screen displaying v2.1 PID values, allowing me to precisely tailor the flight experience. On December 28th, 2014, an upgrade was implemented with reinforced mounting holes and re-released .stl files free of manifold errors to enhance durability, resulting in only broken zip-ties from my many thrilling yet reckless crashes; the Tri-copter design is robust and built for these 'oooops moments'. On November 27th, I strengthened the tail boom by thickening both the top and bottom layers, printed with an impressive 100% infill, to further bolster resilience against unforeseen setbacks.
