Mini Sanding Drum
thingiverse
A compact DC powered drum sander. It utilizes 1 3/16" x 9" or 30 x 229mm sandpaper. I personally use Norton 93x 229mm sandpaper and simply cut it to 30mm. Two small DC motors operate at 16.5k RPM, providing minimal torque to prevent overheating of PLA prints. It is essential to dab water on the drum to keep parts cool. Excessive moisture will result in a shower-like experience. To compensate for the low torque of the small DC motors, I utilized 8 AA batteries. The sandpaper is securely held in place by a small plastic wedge (not included) or an offset rubber band. With the addition of 8 AA batteries, this device moves with considerable force. Ensure that the wedge is tightly secured to prevent it from flying out. **Always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes!** The drum pin is slightly undersized. I utilized a piece of heatsink over the pin to tighten things up and significantly reduce noise. The prototype is pictured; however, I have not printed the included model yet.
