Mini Sanding Block - Jewelers - Pen Making - Model Building
thingiverse
I create many small handmade items that require extensive sanding. Holding tiny pieces of sandpaper is challenging, and getting a backing for the paper is even more complicated. After a long stint of sanding metal strips for making pen clips, I came up with this idea. The basic design is similar to several others already done, but with the added benefit of using precut 1" roll strips of sandpaper. The sanding blocks utilize common 1" strips of sandpaper that come in rolls from major woodworking stores, Amazon, or eBay. Simply cut a 5.75" long strip and install it into the block, and you're ready to sand. These blocks work well for jewelry making, model building, pen making, or any other craft that requires hand sanding of small items. Each block demands two 8-32 1/2" screws and nuts. I heat-melt the nuts into the base of the block, then cool it down and add a drop of thin CA glue to the sides of the nut to prevent it from coming loose. Stretch the paper tight into the clamp and tighten the screws. I print the blocks at 100% infill for maximum strength and at .15 (preferably) or .20 layer height for added reinforcement.
