Mini Sanding Block - Jewelers - Pen Making - Model Building
thingiverse
I create many small handmade items that demand a lot of sanding. Holding tiny pieces of sandpaper is tough, and getting a backing for the paper only adds to the challenge. After hours of sanding metal strips for making pen clips, I came up with this idea. The basic design shares similarities with several others already created, but with one key difference - it allows you to use pre-cut 1" roll strips of sandpaper. The sanding blocks utilize the common 1" strips of sandpaper that come in rolls from big woodworking stores, Amazon, or eBay. Simply cut a 5.75" long strip and install it into the block. You're ready to start sanding. These blocks work great for jewelry making, model building, pen making, or any other craft that requires hand sanding of small items. Each block needs two each of 8-32 1/2" screws and nuts. I melt the nuts into the base of the block with heat, let it cool, and add a drop of thin CA glue to the sides of the nut to prevent it from coming loose. Then, I stretch the paper tightly into the clamp and tighten the screws. I print the blocks at 100% infill for maximum strength and at .15 (preferably) or .20 layer height for added stability.
